People love to view art pieces and learn about different artists. Art is such a big thing in our world today and there are so many different variations of art pieces that you can look at.
Phillip Adams is a muralist that likes painting mountains and realistic pieces. In this article you can find out more about his journey of becoming a mural painting artist and how he is incorporated into our arts festival on the 18th, 19th and 20th of June.
Phillip Adams is an artist who is based in Philadelphia. He has published lots of his work in exhibitions around the world. His art style is painting murals which are mostly black, white, and grey shades with a single pop of color in them. For example, one of his murals is a painting of mountains with a colored beach ball and it’s called ‘Inflated curl’. Another one of his murals is called ‘Ultimate slide’ and it’s a painting of mountains with a coloured slide going across it.
Phillip has started doing art since he was a small child.
He said, “I was always sketching in my notebooks, getting books on how to draw, and generally felt it was a place that I could go and be myself.” (Phillip A., Artist).
In college is when Phillip noticed that he was good at art. One of his friends told him to join an art class and he did. He loved being there and found his passion. Phillip learns best from people that he loves being around and he can gather information from them.
“I love learning from the people I work with. I love the actual painting of the mural and problem solving (every project is different and has its own set of problems to solve). (Phillip A., Artist).
Phillip has in fact worked with multiple companies with his murals. Such as Starbucks, U.S Federal Government and lots more.
The arts fest is a three-day long period, where students are off timetable. Students get to experience new things such as mural painting, Zumba dancing, arts and crafts, musical activities and more. The arts department have organized this special day for students to learn and have an experience of things they thought they might not have ever done.
Ms. Duncan said, “It’s a good opportunity for students to learn skills that they need”.
Students were able to sign up for their activities and choose what they wanted to do on those three days.
Students will be able to help Phillip paint the mural on the new Nexus building. The arts department have asked him to bring in his amazing artwork into our MIS community.
Ms. Giroux thinks, “We are close to the mountains and nature so his mural artwork will bring in a sense of belonging and community for us”.
“It was fascinating how he does most of his work in charcoal because it’s an extremely messy material, but he does it with such precision that you can’t tell what he uses until you go up close” (Ms. Duncan., Art teacher).
Ms. Giroux also said, “I love how he contrasts the colors and uses the grey scales for the mountains. The small pop of color adds a whimsical effect to it.”
Phillip Adams work is loved by lots of people and by having this opportunity for students to help him create one of his murals, will allow students to feel a part of it. Students wanted an element of nature brought into the Nexus building so Phillips artwork is a great opportunity for this.
Come check out the Nexus building with the brand new mural, after the arts fest, to see what you think.
