With a burst of adrenaline and an unstoppable drive, the MIS track and field team delivered a performance for the ages at the last meets. Records crumbled as athletes overtook their rivals and scored points higher than ever before.
MIS has many sports teams but one of the most successful is the track team, which has practices 4 times a week. The past 5 weeks these athletes have dedicated their weekends to participating in track meets competing against dozens of other schools from Bavarian International School to the Milan International School. These track meets have diverse opinions from participants, shedding light on the sporting event.
Anna S., Grade 9, a dedicated athlete, described track meets as “competitive, fun, and different,”. Reflecting on the latest track meet, Anna S. expressed her enjoyment at the event but says that there should have been more participants from mis to make it more enjoyable.
“I thought it was really fun,” Anna S. remarked. “I wish there were more people from our school there.”
When questioned about the elements that make a successful track meet, Anna S. emphasized the importance of sunny weather conditions and positive energy.
“Weather plays a big role, especially if it’s sunny, and good energy from participants and spectators keeps the momentum going,” Anna S. said, emphasizing the significance of the outside elements that make a good event.
Will M., Grade 9, shared that his least favorite part of track practice is the workout, while the best feeling for him is the post-practice feeling of accomplishment.
“My least favorite is the workout, but the best feeling is the after feeling, going home,” Will M. disclosed, showing the highs and lows that athletes often experience during such events.
In addition, when asked about his preference between away games and home matches, Will M. expresses how he feels about away competitions.
“I prefer away,” Will M. stated, showing a preference for the unique challenges and experiences offered by competing in unfamiliar environments.
The selection process is when only the best for each event is chosen to participate because only 4 are allowed to be admitted to each event. Will M. suggests that it depends on various factors but leans towards a favorable view of selection-based meets.
“Depends, but yes,” Will M. responded, implying that even though selection can be good and make the athletes push to their full potential, it is good to let all athletes compete and find their full potential.
For the final competition he believes that the best in each event should be selected to win.
The MIS track team was always high up on the list of winners the most recent MIS got first place and broke records along the way, the athlete’s mad new friends with neighboring schools and built connections that could only be found through sports. The athletes are excited and can’t wait for next year to start a new season.
