Unveiling the Diverse World of Footwear at MIS

By Jonathan R. and Peter R., Grade 6

MIS has 1400 kids, so there must be a shoe for everyone. But from all the shoes out there, why did students choose them?

The shoes in our school range from fancy and expensive to funky and colourful. There is just a massive variety of shoes.

We asked students across the MIS campus their opinion about shoes. As we expected, people who were walking around with interesting, abnormal shoes said that they cared about what shoes they wear. Other students said they are just helpful for walking around.

“I think shoes are just to get from point A to point B.” Axel M., Grade 6, said.

Grade 6 Level Leader Ms. Shave said she has seen a variety of different shoes on students in her years at MIS. She said that at the teenage stage, students start caring about what clothes they wear and how they look. This is backed up by the fact that there are students attending MIS who buy nice clothes, cool shoes and won’t miss trends. She said she can understand that some people care a lot about this and others less.

“That is when you really start to think about what others think about you, and part of that is image and clothing and that includes your shoes,”  Shave said.

Students interviewed mostly said that they had no opinion on shoes. Many said if they see someone with nice shoes, they like the shoes and find they have good style.

A few people said they really find that special shoes can boost you. They also said that it is fancier when the shoes are not dirty. They also mentioned many people walk around MIS with NIKE shoes, not only the casual white Air Force 1s, but also more expensive or exclusive pairs, or ones with different colour combinations.

“If they have really raggy shoes, then I might not like it, but if they have really nice shoes then I’ll like them for sure,” Michelle R., Grade 6, said.

In the sneaker industry, and our school, old-fashioned shoes are having their comeback. You can see students walking around with adidas, and often the new adidas Campus.

As the season changes to winter, the fancy shoes will go back into the closet and winter shoes are now coming out. Like every season, there will be an uproar for winter shoes. For example, UGG boots might come into the light. There will be millions of choices, and there will be new reasons why MIS students choose their shoes.

All in all, there are people who are really into shoes, and ones that aren’t. You can say that our school community has some great opinions, and, of course, some great shoes.
