MIS Ski Team: Glides to Triumph

By Olivia H. and Ella F., Grade 6

Would you stop skiing to get more free weekends?  Well, we know a ski team who won’t.

Over the years the MIS ski team has become a strong community on the MIS campus.

Former ski team coach Ms. Erhardt said that she left ski team because it was too much work as a teacher. Not only was it hard work on the weekends, but she said she also had to follow up on problems from the trips during school days.

“It’s a lot of work as teacher working 7 days a week and it’s like you lose focus on teaching,” Ms. Erhardt said.

Now that Ms Erhardt is out of the game, there is a new coach on campus: Makers’ Lab Lead Educator Ms. Zabriskie. She joined ski team because she always liked sports and we think she was born to be ski coach. This year is even more exciting for her, as she started a new race camp to help 5th graders become pro skiers.

“ We have some amazing skiers,” Ms. Z said.

Nikita F., Grade 12, the ski team leader, said she has been in ski team for so long her weekends are barely spent at home. She said the positive thing is earning more friendships every year, which makes it worth it.

“I think it consumes a lot more time of your weekends and that’s something that you need to be aware of,” Nikita said.

The MIS ski team has been through a lot of rough and fun situations which makes every single skier unique and a winner.
