New Deputy Head of School Ms. Miller’s motivation drives her to success.
“I love my job,”she said
Ms. Miller started as the Deputy Head of School this school year after moving here from Chili in South America. The Buchhof Bulletin wanted to check in with her for an update on how she is doing here during her first months at MIS.
Ms. Miller started working at MIS in 2006 but left in 2008. So now that she is back, she said it is nice to return and already know so many people. At the same time, a lot of things have changed here because new buildings have been built and the school has grown over time. She was gone so she said she must familiarize herself with changes.
Ms. Miller said she wants to get to know the new people around her.
“I spend a lot of time in classrooms because I want to get to know all the teachers and students,” she said.
Ms. Miller said she enjoys MIS because students have a lot of say in decisions at the school. Here at MIS, students are allowed a lot of choices, such as on student council where students to organize activities, or students who manage the whole school assembly.
“This is a place where students’ voices matter,” Miller said.
Ms. Miller said she respects MIS for being a school that is always developing its technology and buildings for the students to learn efficiently. This is the reason she is so engaged and ready to learn, she said. In her job she wants to learn more about the way of learning at MIS and what she can do to have that kind of attitude too.
“MIS is such a good school already and I think so many things have happened, it feels wonderful to be a part of,” she said.
Ms. Miller said she is also learning as she goes about all the various aspects of the school, including the modern technology the school uses, which she said sometimes brings a bit of stress and anxiety.
“I think the hard part for me is not the time pressure, it is that there are so many new things for me to learn,” she said.
Ms. Miller said she thinks she made the right choice in coming to her new role at MIS.
“I would love to continue to be in this type of role because I think I can support teachers in doing their best and to ensure that students enjoy coming to school,” she said.
