On Friday the 23rd of September, climate protesters gathered in Königsplatz in Munich. Many carried handmade posters or sported bold shirts. Their objective? To fight for Climate Justice!
Carrying their banners, signs and flags, the protesters began the walk in a loop around the city, eventually returning to Konigsplatz.
The response was mostly positive. Onlookers waved out of their apartment windows up above. People on the sidewalks even joined in!
This event not only took place in Munich. It was a worldwide event that happened in many cities, including Sydney, Australia; Tokyo, Japan; and in the capital of Germany: Berlin. It was organised by the Fridays for Future orginization, started by the young activist Greta Thunberg. It wasn‘t a one-time event, either! Action has an impact. While it may not move mountains in a day, small changes become big changes that could eventually help save our planet. As a response to this protest, Denmark has increased its funding to repair damage caused by climate change. This is setting the standard for other countries to follow. We need to take back the damage we have done to our planet.
As Greta Thunberg said: “Everything needs to change and it has to start today.”
